Smiles of the Week

Normally, the library is a place where folks must be quiet and if they do speak, itís in hushed tones.

Thatís why it probably seemed quite odd to many patrons at the Oxford Public Library last week when the deafening sound of drums and other assorted percussion instruments filled the air.

Donít worry Gilligan, the drums werenít signaling the arrival of bloodthirsty headhunters from a neighboring island.

These were sounds of pure joy as children and parents alike gathered to form a drum circle (or ďdrummunity,Ē if you like) as part of a library youth enrichment program.

The kids had tons of fun learning about the instruments they were playing, while expressing themselves musically.
