Sewer audit
May 30, 2012
Department of Environmental Quality inspectors checked Clarkston's storm water drainage system, May 23, as part of the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) program.
The audit “went very well,” said City Manager Dennis Ritter.
The DEQ checked City Hall, 3 East Church, and other city property. One issue, however, is proper disposal of waste from its street sweeper, which has “potential to pick up toxins,” Ritter explained.
The system includes roads, storm sewers, pipes, and ditches. The state will send a formal letter outlining MS4-compliance steps in 45-60 days, Ritter said
The city will post its watershed plan on its website, train DPW personnel on pollution prevention, and develop public education and outreach activities. Check www.michigan.gov/deq.
