What an exciting day for the Oxford High School track at the state finals last Saturday, June 2!

OHS participated in the Kentwood-hosted track event over the weekend, and came away with some impressive results.

One of the bright spots for the Wildcat trekkers was the 6th place state finish for the 3200 relay team.

Led by seniors Chelsea and Brittany Johnson, frosh Jessica Murphy, and junior Brooke Kovacic, the team set yet another school record, finishing a strong 9:16.33.

Wildcat standout Brooke Kovacic set another personal record in the 3200m run at 10:44.20, finishing fourth in the state. Senior Brittany Johnson ran a speedy 2:15.04 , finishing 6th in the 800m run.

In the previous week, OHS competed in the Oakland County Championships held in Holly. The Wildcats had a tremendous showing in the pole vault event, securing a second and third place. Cody Westmoreland cleared 13’6" for the Wildcat men, finishing second, while Sarah Hillebrand vaulted 10' for a third place finish. Junior Brooke Kovacic racked up another victory in the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:57.67.

Overall, the OHS mens track team finished 22nd out of 40 schools in Holly. Meanwhile, the OHS women finished 10th, four spots better than the previous year’s effort.
