Lunch prices going up

July 18, 2012

The Clarkston Community Schools Board of Education unanimously approved a proposal to increase lunch prices by 10 cents on July 9.

The increase will meet the new USDA requirements regarding the Price Lunch Equity Program – all school districts must charge specific lunch costs within mandated guidelines. The minimum requirement per the USDA is $2.51 per lunch. Clarkston was averaging $2.48 during the 2011-2012 school year.

Marla Ernst, director of Food Services for CCS, pointed out a dime increase instead of a nickel will help the district if costs go up again for the 2013-2014 school year.
