Lunch prices going up

July 18, 2012

The Clarkston Community Schools Board of Education unanimously approved a proposal to increase lunch prices by 10 cents on July 9.

The increase will meet the new USDA requirements regarding the Price Lunch Equity Program all school districts must charge specific lunch costs within mandated guidelines. The minimum requirement per the USDA is $2.51 per lunch. Clarkston was averaging $2.48 during the 2011-2012 school year.

Marla Ernst, director of Food Services for CCS, pointed out a dime increase instead of a nickel will help the district if costs go up again for the 2013-2014 school year.
