JIM, WHERE WERE YOU?

In a recent vote in Lansing Republicans decided that Michigan would be better off as the 24th Right-to-Work state. James Marleau, State Senator from the Orion area voted to support this measure.

UAW Local 5960 has always worked with local leadership, including Jim. When the Senior Center needed a Gazebo, we were there to provide the supplies and the labor. When the Scout Camp needed a new bath house we built it. The seniors needed a transport van, the plant and local stepped up to make it happen. The localís Veterans Committee has built many freedom ramps in the community to allow disabled veterans the freedom they deserve. Tax dollars from our facility have educated the children in the Orion School District, including Jimís children. Our funds have also flowed to the Township Library, police and fire departments. Lake Orion kids compete and learn about team work on the plantís property. We are the folks who adopt your highways and shop at local businesses.

On Thursday, December 5, Senator, James Marleau had an opportunity to speak on our behalf in the capitol when Right-to-Work came to the floor. It was Jimís chance to explain how his constituents support each other, work together and make Orion a great place to live and raise children. Unfortunately, Mr. Marleau sat on his hands. When Jimís chance came to speak he was silent; when it was his time to share the positive stories from his district, he decided the party line was more important. When faced with the choice between the Governorsí wishes and the people in his home town who have supported many positive programs; shamefully Jim chose the wishes of Rick Snyder.

We will continue to support our local community, realizing that Jimís actions have made that support more difficult. We have lost a sense of trust and faith in Mr. Marleauís leadership. Jim placed his party in front of the needs of those who have supported him. We are disappointed and hurt by his actions.
