A doleful feeling, yet again, ...

A doleful feeling, yet again, encompasses the small town of Oxford, Michigan after the tragic death of Megan Abbott. Amy Hafeli, Miss Abbott's mother, praised the community in the article "Goodbye, Megan" for the social cohesiveness she is feeling during this devastating time. However, the young life lost allows one to question the preventive measures the community practices in order to protect our children. As a member of the community, I suggest, we consciously take 5 minutes each day to talk to our children, children's friends, neighbors, the person standing next to you at the post office, etc. Opening the doors of communication within our community may be the lifeline an individual needs in order to shed feelings of isolation and embrace feelings of support and love. In closing, I ask the community to ponder Plato's wise words: "Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a harder battle." Change is upon us...be part of the change.
